The term "nano" is derived from a Greek word meaning very small. A nanometer is a near molecular scale measurement that is a billionth of a meter. As an example, a sheet of paper is approximately 100,000 nanometers thick (www.nano.gov).
According to the National Nanotechnology Initiative, at the nanoscale the physical, chemical, andsimulated nano structure biological properties of materials differ in fundamental and valuable ways from the properties of individual atoms and molecules or bulk matter. Nanotechnology research and development is directed toward understanding and creating improved materials, devices, and systems that exploit these new properties. By building "from the bottom up," with every molecule in a desired position, nanotechnology enables significant increases in material strength, durability and flexibility.
This near molecular technology can provide enormous benefit for our customers. Our subsidiaries, High Performance Coatings (HPC) and nTech, Inc., already utilize nanotechnology in a variety of ways to deliver better coating products and more efficient processes for their manufacture. nCoat believes strongly that by driving innovation we will uphold and continue to strengthen our leadership role in the high performance coatingsback to top and materials markets.
nCoat exploits nano-level processes and nano-formulated materials to develop coatings that produce revolutionary performance in heat management, corrosion resistance, abrasion resistance, friction reduction, superior bond strength and improved appearance. Our proprietary nano formulas are achieved by:
- Creating and using nano-sized particulates
- Triggering nano-level chemical reactions to manipulate and change molecular structures
- Establishing processes to trigger molecular change
- Utilizing proprietary chemistries to produce broad dispersion and eliminate clumping of nano-scale particulates
